How is it possible?
People
Stratavia (DBAs) are certified with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience working with multi-database systems. Stratavia works with a customer's existing DBA teams to ensure the availability and optimization of the database infrastructure, which may include multiple DBMS and Platforms. This function is performed by understanding the complete system environment including the operating system(s) and the needs of data architects and application providers or developers. Stratavia DBAs repair any existing architectural flaws and introduce processes to manage configuration, version and other environmental changes. If well-defined procedures and standards already exist, Stratavia adopts them, if they don't exist, Stratavia will work with the customer to create procedures and standards specific to their needs. Stratavia DBAs are responsible for any knowledge transfer and documentation that needs to occur among Stratavia personnel. They also ensure there is proper knowledge transfer to the client's personnel which grants flexibility to the client.
Process Workflow
Within the DOC (Database Operations Center) Managed Services Model, Stratavia assigns the appropriate number of DBAs to a client depending on the number and type of databases being managed. Each customer is assigned a primary DBA, which allows for a single point of contact, and multiple secondary DBAs as back up. We have developed our DOC over six years from the collective knowledge of our expert DBAs. The goal is to resolve alerts before the customer recognizes there is a problem. To date, more than 50% of customer database issues are automatically resolved before the client is aware of the problem. The remaining issues are solved remotely or on-site by Stratavia DBAs.
The primary DBA may be located on-site at the customer's facility, or off-site at the Data Operations Center (DOC), depending on the client's needs. By assigning both primary and secondary DBAs, customers can be assured that there will always be someone available who fully understands their specific needs and can respond according to the client's SLA (30-minute response, 4-business hour response, or 1-business day response). Most existing DBA standards are built around fairly mundane data center automation tasks. However, relying solely on these standards fosters reactive administration.

Stratavia's proprietary Data Palette technology leverages our 400 plus person years of DBA experience to provide a high level of data center automation, business intelligence, analytics and sophisticated interfaces. Stratavia DBAs use this technology to proactively manage their clients environments. Data Palette is able to report potential problems before they escalate into site-crippling disasters. This proactive database automation approach and self-healing software keep database downtime to a minimum. Stratavia typically delivers more than 99.9% uptime database performance.
